Chef Murder Shocker at Notting Hill Carnival
An East London man has appeared at the Old Bailey charged with the murder of top chef Mussie Imnetu following a savage attack near the Notting Hill Carnival.
Omar Wilson in Court Over Fatal Assault
Omar Wilson, 31, from Napier Road, Leytonstone, faced the Old Bailey on September 9 accused of killing 41-year-old Mussie Imnetu. The victim was a celebrated chef who once worked under celebrity chefs Gordon Ramsay and Marcus Wareing.
The horror unfolded on August 26 outside Dr Power restaurant in Queensway during the carnival. Wilson allegedly headbutted Imnetu, then punched him five times in the head. The assault reportedly continued even after Imnetu fell to the ground.
Victim Dies Days After Brutal Attack
- Emergency services were called at 11:22 pm; Imnetu was found unconscious with a head injury.
- He was rushed to hospital but tragically died four days later on August 30.
- Wilson was first charged with grievous bodily harm but the charge was swiftly upgraded to murder.
Prosecutor Julian Winship told the court the deadly clash erupted amid the carnival crowds. Wilson only confirmed his name and date of birth during the brief hearing.
Next Steps in Murder Case
Wilson remains in custody, with a plea and trial preparation hearing set for November 25 at the Old Bailey. The full trial is pencilled in for February 3 next year and expected to last two weeks.
Remembering Mussie Imnetu
Mussie Imnetu was in London on business but based in Dubai, where he built an impressive culinary career. On the day of the attack, he left The Arts Club in Mayfair around 1 pm and was later spotted at Dr Power restaurant where the assault occurred.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed Imnetu was alone during the incident, which shocked the carnival atmosphere. Alongside Ramsay and Wareing, he had also worked with world-renowned chef Alain Ducasse.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic attack.
