Nottingham Knife Crime Team Nets Drugs Bust in Taxi Stop
Nottingham’s knife crime squad struck gold on the night of January 11, stopping a suspected drug deal cold during a routine patrol.
Taxi Stop Reveals £1,000 Worth of Class A Drugs
At around 8.20pm on Waverley Street, officers spotted suspicious activity and followed a man getting into a taxi. The vehicle was pulled over and the passenger searched. Inside, police found about 30 bags packed with drugs, including ketamine and ecstasy – all now undergoing lab testing.
Alongside the stash was a wad of cash estimated at £1,000, bundled tightly with an elastic band. Four mobile phones were also seized for further investigation.
Arrest Made as Police Clamp Down on Drug Dealers
The 31-year-old man from West Bridgford was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and is currently in police custody.
“This was a brilliant result by officers carrying out a routine patrol around Radford and the Arboretum,”
– Chief Inspector Chris Pearson, Head of City Neighbourhood Policing
He added: “We will not stand for people littering our streets with drugs and making money from illegal activity. Our knife crime team targets both those carrying knives and those peddling drugs, as the two are often linked.”
Chief Inspector Pearson confirmed a full investigation is underway, including a deep dive into the seized phones. He also reminded the public that officers operate in both marked and unmarked cars, so just because you don’t see them doesn’t mean they’re not there.
Rapid Response Praised by Inspectors
“These officers acted fast when they spotted a potential drug deal taking place and caught the offender red-handed,”
– Neighbourhood Inspector Ben Lawrence, covering Radford and Arboretum
“We’ve taken a serious haul of drugs off Nottingham’s streets, showing our ongoing commitment to cracking down on this crime.”
