Three-hour showdown near Boots

A tense three-hour standoff unfolded in Chichester yesterday evening after a man armed with a silver gun sat on a bench near Boots the Chemist at around 8.40pm. Worried drinkers quickly alerted police, who rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area, moving bystanders to safety.

Armed officers confronted the man during the standoff. After prolonged negotiations, officers fired a Taser to bring the situation under control. No injuries were reported.

Man in his 40s arrested

A firearm was recovered at the scene. A police spokesperson confirmed: “A Taser was discharged by officers. No one was injured. A man in his 40s was arrested for possession of a firearm.”
