Drug Dogs Strike in Thanet: Dope Dealers on the Run

Kent’s toughest task force rolled into action across Broadstairs, Ramsgate, and Margate Train Station on the evening of May 28, 2022. Their weapon of choice? PD Dougal — a savvy drug-sniffing police dog.

27-Year-Old Busted for Drug Supply

At Margate Station, Dougal teamed up with Kent Special Constabulary and British Transport Police. Several youngsters were caught carrying drugs. The big catch? A 27-year-old man from Ashford was arrested for drug possession with intent to supply. He’s now out on bail until September 1st.

Park Patrols and Crackdowns

  • Dougal helped patrols in Pierremont Park and Memorial Park in Broadstairs, sniffing out suspects during stop-and-searches.
  • A dispersal order was slapped on local parks after reports of anti-social behaviour forced officers to clear out rowdy groups of youths.
  • Parents and guardians are being contacted to tackle the problem at its root.
  • Plain clothes officers joined the hunt for drug users lurking in Broadstairs.

Keeping Ramsgate’s Nightlife Safe

Additional patrols hit Ramsgate’s High Street and Harbour Street, targeting troublemakers and encouraging safer nights out in pubs and clubs.

Chief Inspector Matthew Smith, District Commander for Thanet, said: “During the summer months, it’s natural for folks to enjoy a night out and more people come to Thanet to do so.

Most don’t cause trouble, but a few do impact the community negatively. We remind everyone to socialise responsibly and look out for each other.”

This summer, Kent Police will partner with local businesses and the community to keep Thanet safe for all. Officers and special constables, backed by PD Dougal’s nose, are ready to take on the challenge.
