Miracle on the A27: Van Smashes into Stationary Horsebox, No Serious Injuries
It was a smash-up that could have ended in disaster – but luck was on their side. A white van slammed into a broken-down horsebox on the A27 between Chichester and Havant on Saturday evening, yet nobody was seriously hurt.
Van Hits Stationary Horsebox at 70mph
The horsebox had broken down in lane one of the westbound carriageway at around 6:45pm on November 12th. As it lay stationary on a bend, a white van barreled down the road at about 70mph and crashed into it.
Photos from the scene show the carnage: the impact flipped the van, which ended up smashed into the embankment.
“The van drove into it. The images are horrifying. The impact force flipped the van, sending it into the embankment. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured. He needs to play the lottery tonight.”
– Jason Haste, Havant crew manager
Minor Injuries and Shock – Empty Horsebox Spared Worse
- The male driver of the white van walked away with only minor injuries.
- The female driver of the horsebox was treated for shock. Luckily, the box was empty.
The road was shut for just over an hour as emergency services cleared the wreckage. Sussex Police later confirmed the carriageway has reopened.
