HGV Driver Busted in Kent People Smuggling Sting
A lorry driver has been arrested on suspicion of people smuggling after a National Crime Agency (NCA) operation near Dover, Kent.
Four Migrants Found Hidden in Trailer
The NCA, backed by police, stopped the HGV around 1.30pm on October 1 as part of a crackdown on organised immigration crime. Inside the trailer, officers found four adult male migrants – two Bangladeshis, one Indian, and one Egyptian – believed to be in the UK illegally.
Driver Facing Questions Over Illegal Immigration
The 37-year-old Romanian national driver is now under investigation for allegedly trying to facilitate illegal immigration. The lorry was due to sail to Calais on a ferry later the same day.
NCA Cracks Down on Ruthless People Smugglers
“Criminal groups involved in people smuggling do not care about the safety or wellbeing of those they transport. They just see them as a commodity to be profited from,” said NCA branch commander Andy Noyes.
“We are determined to do all we can to disrupt their activities.
“In this case, four individuals have been prevented from making what was undoubtedly a dangerous journey.
“Our investigation continues.”
