Knife-wielding robber caught by armed cops in Newport!
Armed police arrested a man after a terrifying knife robbery at a Newport shop this afternoon (Friday, Feb 9). The drama unfolded just yards from Isle of Wight’s Island Innovation Sixth Form Campus at Nodehill.
Knife threat at Central Convenience
Staff at the Central Convenience Store were held up at knifepoint. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but employees were left visibly shaken. Police were called to St James’ Street around 4pm and quickly sealed off the scene.
Armed officers launch manhunt across town
Armed cops swooped on a suspect near flats on Upper James Street, detaining and searching the man before taking him away in an undercover BMW X5. Police can be seen conducting a thorough search — jumping garden walls and rifling through wheelie bins on West Street.
Focus shifts to Carisbrooke Road address
The investigation now zeroes in on a property on Carisbrooke Road. A police spokesperson confirmed:
“We were called at 3.31pm to reports of a robbery incident at Central Convenience Store on St James’ Street, Newport. It was reported that a man entered the store holding a knife. Officers are on-scene making enquiries. A man has been arrested in connection with this incident.”
