Armed Police Lockdown Street After Dramatic Shooting Near Castlepoint
Armed Dorset cops have locked down a street near Castlepoint Cooperative after a tense shooting tonight. The drama unfolded around 8pm Tuesday, with paramedics and a rapid response team rushing to the scene.
Huge Police Operation Seals Off Area
Cops cordoned off a large area with tape, keeping watch over a black Mercedes abandoned in the middle of the road – its tyres riddled with bullets. Armed officers, decked out in tactical gear, detained a man at the scene.
Witnesses say the vehicle ignored stop commands during a police chase. “I heard several bangs. At first, I thought it was some kind of exercise,” said one onlooker. “Then I saw people in balaclavas shouting ‘stop!’ at the car, but it kept going.”
Serious Assault Sparks Police Sting
The drama ties into an earlier violent assault on Wimborne Road at about 7pm. A 24-year-old Bournemouth man was stabbed in the hand, head, and back by a man believed known to him. Paramedics treated him at the scene.
It’s also believed a police officer may have been stabbed trying to halt the suspects.
Gun Fired, One Man Shot – Investigation Underway
Dorset Police confirmed armed officers stopped a vehicle with three people on Castle Lane West linked to the assault investigation. During the stop at 8.26pm, officers discharged a firearm. One man from the car was shot in the arm and taken to hospital; his injuries are not life-threatening.
A 36-year-old male was arrested on the spot; a woman in the vehicle escaped injury. Police have set up a cordon and referred the case to the Independent Office for Police Conduct as standard procedure.
More updates to follow as the investigation unfolds.
