Just Stop Oil Protesters Arrested at Heathrow in Global Climate Crackdown
Seven climate activists from Just Stop Oil were arrested early this morning outside Heathrow Airport. The action came around 9 am on the perimeter road, amid a worldwide protest blitz demanding an end to fossil fuel extraction.
Climate Chaos Hits Airports Across Europe
This Heathrow stunt is just part of a coordinated EU-wide disruption. In Germany, Last Generation activists targeted Cologne Bonn Airport. Norway’s Folk Mot Fossilmakta gang broke fences at Oslo Gardermoen Airport, halting flights. Finnish Extinction Rebellion protesters blocked Helsinki Vantaa. Over in Spain, Futuro Vegetal activists got stopped on the taxiway at Barcelona Airport before they could strike.
Switzerland wasn’t spared either. Drop Fossil Subsidies protesters shut down key roads near Zurich and Geneva airports. The wave of direct action shows growing unity among climate warriors across Europe.
Activists Demand Governments Ditch Fossil Fuels by 2030
A Just Stop Oil spokesperson slammed world leaders for ignoring the climate emergency: “Continued reliance on fossil fuels as we face tipping points in climate change is irresponsible and akin to an act of war against vulnerable nations. Our leaders must act decisively to secure a sustainable future.”
Among those cuffed at Heathrow was Sally Davidson, 36, a hairdresser from Portland. She warned, “The impending climate crisis threatens massive migrations and food shortages. Our actions today are a call to our government to commit to ending fossil fuel use by 2030.”
Gardener Adam Beard, 55, from Stroud, also arrested, echoed the alarm: “Immediate action is crucial. We are on a path to a world where large areas will be uninhabitable, prompting unprecedented humanitarian crises.”
Met Police Step In, Nine Arrested for Heathrow Disruption
The protesters form part of a mounting international movement pressing for urgent climate action. The Met confirmed nine Just Stop Oil activists were taken into custody this morning for conspiring to disrupt Heathrow Airport.
A Met Police spokesperson said: “Thanks to the work of officers involved, those arrested have been taken into custody and the Met has prevented significant disruption to the airport and travelling public.
As climate despair boils over into direct action, governments face mounting pressure to slash fossil fuel use—before it’s too late.
