Beekeeper’s Nightmare: Hives Stolen Near Busy Cornish Road
A brazen theft has rocked a local beekeeper in Tresillian, Cornwall. Not only has valuable property been stolen, but the welfare of the bees themselves is now under threat.
Police Sergeant Steve Applewhite, head of the Newquay Neighbourhood Team and a beekeeper himself, issued a heartfelt plea: “This crime is deeply concerning. The stolen bees’ wellbeing is at risk as well as the owner’s property.”
Bees Returning to Empty Hives – Thieves Close By?
Some of the stolen bees have reportedly returned to the original site, suggesting the hives are nearby—possibly only a few miles from Tresillian. This hints that the thieves have hidden or relocated the hives close to the crime scene.
Sgt Applewhite added, “Transporting these hives would require a large vehicle and would be tricky to manage solo.”
Suspicious Activity on Busy A3058
The hives were taken near the A3058, a busy road where motorists may have spotted suspicious people or vehicles hauling the stolen cargo. Police are urging anyone who was in the area late Saturday into Sunday to come forward.
Police Hunt for Witnesses, Dashcam Footage, and Hives for Sale
The force is calling on the public to check CCTV and dashcams for any unusual activity. They are also keen to hear from anyone in Cornwall or Devon who has been offered beehives or extra apiary stock since the crime.
