Body Found in East Sussex as Missing Man Hunt Turns to Murder Probe

Detectives have launched a murder investigation after discovering a body in East Sussex, believed to be Wayne Woodgate, 54, who vanished from Tunbridge Wells two weeks ago.

Last Seen in Tunbridge Wells

Mr Woodgate was last spotted on Thursday, 17 October 2024, getting into a van on Goods Station Road in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Police issued appeals for information but had no luck—until now.

Body Found in Peasmarsh

On Wednesday, 23 October, officers were called to a rural spot in Peasmarsh, East Sussex, where they found a body. Formal ID is pending, but Wayne’s family have been informed.

Man Arrested and Police Seek Dashcam Footage

A 59-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody. Detectives are hunting for dashcam footage from the A268 between Peasmarsh and Four Oaks. They want videos from motorists who were on the road between 5:15pm and 5:45pm on 17 October, or 8:15am to 8:45am on 20 October.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Kimber said: “We’re asking for any dashcam, CCTV, or doorbell camera footage from these times and places. Please upload anything relevant via the Major Incident Public Portal (MIPP).”
