Water Main Erupts 20 Feet High, Floods Whiteley Street
Whiteley, Hampshire – Chaos hit Whiteley late Friday night as a burst water main shot a geyser of water 20 feet into the air, flooding a local road and cutting off water supply to nearby homes.
Explosive Burst Sparks Flood
At around 10pm on Friday, residents spotted the water main on 1 Lane violently explode, forcing a torrent of water downhill towards the road’s mini roundabout. The sudden deluge caused major flooding and forced Southern Water to slash pressure, leaving many homes without water.
Local Resident: “I Thought It Was Raining!”
Paul Martin, who lives nearby, was stunned by the sight. “I was just about to go to bed when I heard water crashing outside. I thought it was rain,” he said. “I opened the curtains and saw water pouring out like a fountain. We’ve had no water most of the morning, and only now are we getting a few drops.”
“I reported it at around 10pm, but it took time to find the right valve to shut off the main. The water workers were on the scene quickly though, which was great.”
Southern Water Responds
A Southern Water spokesman confirmed they are working hard to fix the leak and restore services as soon as possible. Meanwhile, residents are advised to expect some ongoing water supply issues.
Martin added: “Compared to other water troubles like in Aberdeen, this is minor. Just a big inconvenience for now.”
