Thieves Target Folkestone, Hythe, Romney Marsh Cafes and Restaurants

Kent Police are hunting crooks after a spate of break-ins hit cafes and restaurants across Folkestone, Hythe, and Romney Marsh. The raids struck between Wednesday 27 March and Monday 8 April 2024, leaving business owners rattled.

Raiders Strike Multiple Locations

Reported break-ins include spots in Seabrook, Dymchurch Road, and Martello Drive in Hythe; Tontine Street in Folkestone; as well as Dymchurch Road in St Mary’s Bay and the High Street in Dymchurch. Thieves ripped off padlocks, bolts, and door panels before stealing cash, plus food and drink from the premises.

Adding to the damage, a homeware store in Park Farm, Folkestone, faced an attempted break-in during the same period, with suspects interfering with the door.

Police Urge Local Businesses to Lock Up Tight

Detective Inspector James Wyles of Folkestone Community Safety Unit said: “Crimes such as these can have devastating consequences for businesses and leave long-lasting effects that ripple out through communities.”

“While officers investigate, I urge all business owners to be extra vigilant. Lock windows, doors, and storage spaces, and ensure security systems are activated when away.”

“Fit CCTV covering both front and rear entrances and consider timer switches on lights as a deterrent. Don’t leave valuables on display — use a bolted-down safe instead.”

“Secure gates, boundaries, and sheds. Keep bins and items that can aid intruders out of sight.”

“Report suspicious activity immediately. Call 999 if a crime is in progress.”
