A family trip to Hollywood Bowl in Crawley took a shocking twist when a five-year-old boy found what his parents believe to be cannabis inside a toy egg from a popular arcade machine. The machine, normally a hit with kids for its emoji keyrings, suddenly became headline news after the illegal substance was spotted.
Parents Left Furious and Concerned
“This is a children’s machine! I still can’t believe how casual they were about a bag of weed being in their machine,” fumed the boy’s mother. The family were told the eggs were stocked by an outside supplier, leaving onsite staff claiming no responsibility for the contents.
Hollywood Bowl Responds Amid Police Probe
Hollywood Bowl’s corporate office told sussex-news/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sussex News, “We take customer safety seriously and were shocked by the discovery of an alleged illegal substance in one of our arcade’s toy eggs. The team acted fast, removing both the substance and the machine.”
They confirmed a full inspection cleared the machine of any other suspicious items. CCTV footage is under review to see if the machine was tampered with. Sussex Police, alerted on 27 April, are investigating the unsettling find.
Apology and Assurances for Parents
Hollywood Bowl apologised for any distress caused and thanked the customer for raising the incident. They assured the public this looks like an isolated case and pledged to boost measures protecting all visitors—especially children.
