A cutting-edge 360-degree camera has been installed near the new Sainsbury’s off Colwick Loop Road to crackdown on reckless car cruising. The high-tech device, funded by the Safer Streets project, is already making waves in the fight against antisocial behaviour.

Partners Unite to Tackle Car Trouble

Gedling Borough Council and Nottinghamshire Police, backed by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, launched the scheme to make streets safer for everyone. The camera sits at the entrance to the site, keeping a watchful eye on trouble hotspots.

Police Crackdown on Dangerous Driving

“This funding has allowed us to come together as partner agencies and find a solution to a problem that has caused regular concern for local people in Netherfield and Colwick,” said Police and Crime Commissioner Caroline Henry.

“We’ve had plenty of complaints about loud engines, screeching tyres, and dangerous driving. While police respond quickly to disperse offenders, this camera provides an extra tool to identify and take action against those responsible.

“I hope it also acts as a deterrent, helping local people feel safer.”

More Safety Measures Backed by Safer Streets

The Safer Streets funding has also allowed Gedling Borough Council to deploy wardens to patrol retail parks and residential areas. Local businesses benefit from a Shopwatch radio scheme, boosting communication to tackle crime.

Gedling Inspector added: “We’re working closely with our partners to tackle this issue and ensure communities feel safe and heard. Recently, as part of an operation in Colwick, we seized vehicles involved in illegal cruising and introduced a public space prevention order to ban such events.”

“Thanks to Safer Streets funding during tough times, local residents should soon see a major drop in the antisocial behaviour that has plagued the area.”
