Youngsters Join Kent Police Mini Cadets at Bansole School
Children aged 8 to 11 at Bansole Primary in Gillingham have kicked off an exciting new adventure with Kent Police’s Mini Cadet Programme. Led by PCSO Aimmie Birch and Rowan Cornwall from Medway Police’s Child Centred Policing Team, these young cadets will explore the world of policing over nine weeks.
Mini Cadets Learn Crime Fighting and Teamwork
The Mini Cadet Programme, launched in Dartford back in April 2021, introduces kids to policing fundamentals. The course promotes teamwork, respect, and community spirit through interactive sessions on:
- Codes of conduct
- Crime prevention
- First aid
- Cyberbullying awareness
- Officer ranks and roles
PCSO Birch: “Excited to Inspire the Next Generation”
“These children were so excited to start their mini cadet journey,” said PCSO Birch. “We’ll run hour-long sessions every Tuesday this term, educating them about crime, anti-social behaviour, policing, and more.”
The youngsters will also visit Medway Police Station, learn when and how to call emergency services, and discuss the importance of making the right choices.
“By the end of the course, I hope they’ll have a better understanding of the police, leadership, and teamwork—perhaps even consider a career in policing,” added Birch.
Kent Police Offers Older Youth a Cadet Programme
For teens aged 13 to 17, Kent Police runs a cadet scheme offering hands-on community projects and valuable life skills. Youngsters can get involved, gain experience, and build a future in community service.
