Man Convicted of Manslaughter After Fatal Parking Row
Abdelaziz Maaroufi, 25, from Woodside End, Alperton, was found guilty of manslaughter at Harrow Crown Court on Wednesday, 12 July. The shocking case stems from a deadly dispute over parking that claimed the life of 67-year-old Peter Marecheau, known as Frankie to friends and family.
Deadly Dispute Over Parking Turns Fatal
The drama unfolded on Friday, 9 September 2022, at Abbey Industrial Estate in Alperton. Peter, who worked at an industrial unit there, had parked his car outside a nearby unit where Maaroufi was employed. Traditionally, a horn blast signals for a car to move. On this day, the unit owner sounded his horn three times before Peter appeared.
An argument quickly erupted between Peter and the unit owner. Maaroufi suddenly got involved, pushing Peter four times. Despite onlookers stepping in and Peter retreating, Maaroufi landed a punch to Peter’s face. Peter fell backwards, hitting his head hard and sustaining severe injuries.
CCTV Captures Brutal Blow
Police received a call from the London Ambulance Service at 4:20 pm. Officers arrived at the industrial estate and later at the hospital where Peter was fighting for his life. Tragically, Peter passed away on Monday, 12 September due to a blunt force head injury confirmed by post-mortem examination.
CCTV footage clearly showed Maaroufi arguing with Peter before delivering the fatal punch. Arrested on suspicion of murder the same day, Maaroufi claimed self-defence but pleaded not guilty. He was remanded in custody pending trial.
Detective Inspector Condemns Violence
Detective Inspector Louise Caveen of the Met’s Specialist Crime Command said: “We don’t know what made Maaroufi involve himself in the argument or why he resorted to extreme violence. Violence is never the right option, no matter what the disagreement. Anyone who loses their temper like this risks ending up in the same situation as the defendant.”
“My thoughts are with Peter’s family today. I hope they find some comfort knowing Abdelaziz Maaroufi will face the consequences of his actions.”
Following the manslaughter verdict, Maaroufi was remanded for sentencing scheduled for Friday, 21 July at Harrow Crown Court.
