City of London Police Launch ‘Stop the Bleed’ Pop-Ups to Save Lives
City of London Police are hitting the streets with pop-up tents to teach Londoners how to stop catastrophic bleeding in emergencies. From knife wounds to car crashes, these quick lifesaver sessions arm the public with crucial skills to prevent fatal blood loss.
Learn to Use Life-Saving Bleed Control Kits—and Everyday Items
At these Stop the Bleed pop-ups, officers demonstrate how to use specialised bleed control kits packed with tourniquets, bandages, and chest seals. Police Constable David Jarvis, who leads the training, also shows how everyday items like ties or scarves can stem blood flow when no kit is nearby.
“Catastrophic bleeding can prove fatal in minutes. We want to show how lives can be saved by quick action using simple tools or our kits,” Jarvis explained.
Building on Lessons from Terror Attacks
Since 2019, over 300 bleed control kits have been installed in City pubs and bars, recognising the vital role of bystanders before emergency crews arrive. Chief Inspector Rob Bell highlights the urgency of this training, stemming from their experience during the 2017 Borough Market terrorist attack.
“We train all frontline officers in pre-hospital trauma care, and it’s crucial to share this knowledge with the public. Early intervention by bystanders can make all the difference,” Bell said.
