Bike Theft in York Ends in Shocking Assault

A man was left shaken after a cycle theft turned violent on Sunday evening in York. The man chased after a gang who swiped his bike—only to be threatened and attacked during the dramatic showdown.

The drama kicked off at around 5:50 PM on Tang Hall Lane, where a gang of young males reportedly nicked a bicycle parked outside a shop. The victim, a man in his 20s, gave chase, following the thieves to Hadrian Avenue. There, he managed to wrestle his bike back from the group.

Violence Escalates on Osbaldwick Lane

The situation took a nasty turn as the group pursued the man to Osbaldwick Lane, launching a physical attack. Thankfully, a passing member of the public stepped in to halt the assault. The victim escaped without physical injury but was left “deeply unsettled” by the ordeal, according to North Yorkshire Police.

Police Launch Investigation – Witnesses Urgently Needed

North Yorkshire Police have described the events as a “troubling sequence of theft and violence” and are urgently appealing for public help. They want anyone with CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell footage from the areas between 5:50 PM and shortly after on Sunday, 23 March to come forward.
