Speedsters, Phone Zombies & Seatbelt Skippers Nabbed in Kent
Kent cops have hit the brakes on dangerous drivers, issuing 100 Traffic Offence Reports in just three months. Among the culprits: seven caught speeding, six glued to their phones, 24 ignoring seatbelts, and ten uninsured drivers behind the wheel.
Red Light Runners and Uninsured Drivers Also Targeted
Other violations include running red lights, driving without an MOT, and operating unsafe vehicles. One driver was even arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Police also seized ten vehicles during the crackdown.
Special Constables Lead the Charge
Special Inspector James Johnston said, “Our priority is targeting the offences that cause the most serious crashes – speeding, impaired driving, ignoring seatbelts, and phone use behind the wheel.”
“We frequently uncover other illegal behaviours that put everyone on the roads at risk. Motorists must take responsibility. Those who flout the rules will face action,” he warned.
Volunteers Wanted to Join the Fight
With Volunteers’ Week running from 1-7 June, Kent Police is urging locals to sign up as Special Constables. These unpaid volunteers hold the same powers as regular officers and pledge at least 16 hours a month to keep the county’s roads safe – often while working full-time jobs.
