EastEnders Star Jamie Borthwick Quits After ‘Strictly’ Scandal
Jamie Borthwick, who has played Jay Brown on EastEnders since 2006, is leaving the soap. At 31, he’s one of the show’s longest-serving stars and made headlines recently on Strictly Come Dancing 2024.
BBC Confirms Jamie’s Exit
The BBC confirmed Borthwick’s departure, telling fans, “We can confirm that Jamie Borthwick will not be returning to EastEnders. We do not comment on individual matters.”
Suspension and Public Apology
The announcement follows reports that Jamie was suspended over allegedly using a derogatory term. Borthwick quickly apologised, saying:
“I want to apologise sincerely and wholeheartedly for the words I used in the video showing my reaction to making it through Blackpool Week on Strictly. I am deeply sorry for any offence and upset my words and actions have caused.”
Jay Brown’s Diminished Role & Show Shake-up
According to The Sun, Jamie’s character Jay has taken a backseat lately. A source revealed, “He’s been very much a supporting character of late.”
Since last summer, Borthwick appeared in just around 30 episodes. New executive producer Ben Wadey has taken charge, sparking rumours about cast shake-ups that likely sealed Jamie’s fate.
Fans can expect big changes as EastEnders looks to reboot, with Jay Brown’s storyline now officially over.
