Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards to shine on ice in Dancing on Ice 2024! Britain’s beloved ski jumping legend is swapping skis for skates after stepping in as an emergency replacement on the ITV1 hit show. The 59-year-old star replaces ‘Gogglebox’ favourite Stephen Lustig-Webb, who pulled out with a broken ankle.

From Ski Jumps to Ice Rinks

Eddie Edwards soared into history in 1988 as Team GB’s very first Olympic ski jumper. The nation fell for his plucky spirit, earning him the iconic nickname “The Eagle.” Now, he’s ready to take on a new challenge.

“It’s bittersweet,” Eddie said. “I’m gutted for Stephen and wish him a speedy recovery. Dancing on Ice is a show I’ve always wanted to do. It’s a challenge I think I’m going to relish!”

Star-Studded Lineup on Ice

Joining Eddie on the rink will be a dazzling mix of celebs including boxing legend Ricky Hatton, actress Claire Sweeney, singer Hannah Spearritt, West End star Amber Davies, Olympian Greg Rutherford, and more. The lineup promises fierce competition and loads of entertainment.

Legend Returns — But Age May Bite!

A TV insider told The Sun, “Eddie is a brilliant signing — he’s known and loved as Britain’s ski jump pioneer. He may be more at home on the ice than most, but he’s nearly 60, so who knows if he’ll be feisty or a bit feeble!”

From Plasterer to Olympic Icon

Immortalised on screen by Taron Egerton in the 2016 film Eddie the Eagle, Eddie’s unlikely journey inspired millions worldwide. Despite finishing last in both Olympic events in Calgary 1988, he set a British record jump of 71 meters — a record standing for decades until overshadowed by Sam Bolton’s incredible 134.5 meters.

Today, Eddie ranks sixth among British ski jumpers, securing a lasting legacy in winter sports history.

Get ready for Dancing on Ice 2024 on ITV1, STV, and ITVX as 12 celebrities skate for glory each week. With Eddie ‘The Eagle’ soaring back into the spotlight, it promises to be a cracker of a series!
