Police and Firefighters Lock Down Stirling Way Site
The site on Stirling Way was swiftly cordoned off as police and the London Fire Brigade (LFB) began a full investigation. The incident has been declared a Level Two hazmat emergency. This classification means the release of any toxic solid, liquid, or gas — or even suspected hazardous material — in a public area requires specialist response.
Firefighters are tackling the threat in gas-tight protective suits, while control zones are in place. Officers are keeping the public well away from the danger zone.
Specialist Hazard Team Called In
The incident commander has summoned the DIM unit, a specialist response team trained to detect, identify, and monitor chemical, biological, and radiological hazards. The unit is expected to assist with assessing contamination levels and securing the area.
No Impact on Hospital Operations or Safety
So far, officials say the hospital’s operations remain unaffected. There are no reports of injury among patients or staff linked to the hazmat scare.
