Tragic Find: Man’s Body Recovered from Nutfield Lake After Struggle in Water
Emergency teams pulled a man’s body from a Nutfield lake last night. The alarm was raised around 6.30pm on June 25 after witnesses spotted a man struggling in the water on Nutfield Marsh Road.
Rescue Efforts and Recovery
Surrey 1 and Rescue Service’s water search team, together with Surrey Search and Rescue, launched an immediate search. Divers from Specialist Group International recovered the body at about 9.20pm.
Investigation Underway
Police are treating the death as unexplained but not suspicious. There’s currently no evidence of third-party involvement. Officers are working to identify the man’s next of kin.
Warning After Daytime Antisocial Behaviour
Earlier that day, police received multiple calls about youths swimming and causing trouble at the lake. With soaring temperatures, authorities issued a fresh warning about the hidden dangers of open water swimming.
Stay Safe Near Water: Vital Tips
- Only swim where there is supervision and rescue safety cover
- Avoid swimming near weirs, locks, pipes, and sluices
- Never mix alcohol and swimming
- Exit the water immediately if you start feeling cold
- Wear appropriate safety gear such as life jackets and helmets
- Never jump or dive into open water unless you know the depth and hazards
- If someone’s in trouble, call 999
- Throw a floating object to help, and try to reach out with a stick or clothing if safe
Open water can look inviting but hides deadly risks like strong currents, sharp debris, pollution, and cold water shock — which can stop you swimming to safety.
