Blaze Tears Through Hounslow Outbuilding
On Saturday night, a fierce fire ripped through a detached outbuilding on Hounslow Avenue, forcing a major emergency response. Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from Heston, Feltham, Twickenham, and nearby stations rushed to the scene after the blaze was reported at 9.27pm.
The fire gutted the single-story structure, damaged part of another outbuilding, and affected two adjoining rear buildings. A man escaped the flames and was treated at the site before the brigade’s arrival. The Blaze was fully extinguished by 10.26pm.
Careless Cigarette Sparks Fiery Inferno
Investigators believe the fire was sparked by careless disposal of smoking materials. A London Fire Brigade spokesperson warned: “We’d rather you didn’t smoke at all, but if you do, it’s absolutely critical you ensure your cigarette is completely out when you’ve finished smoking it.”
“If you don’t, you risk starting a fire that will not only destroy your property but will also cost you your life.”
Fire Safety Tips to Dodge Disaster
- Use sturdy ashtrays that won’t tip over and always stub cigarettes out properly.
- Never leave lit cigarettes or pipes unattended.
- Smoke outside if possible, but dispose of butts safely and fully.
- Don’t balance cigars or cigarettes on ashtrays or edges where they can fall and ignite fires.
- Be extra cautious if you’re tired, on medication, or have been drinking alcohol.
- Empty ashtrays carefully—make sure smokes are fully cold and preferably wet before tossing, never into wastepaper bins.
