Dog Attack Sparks Road Closure in Sheffield
Handsworth Road in Sheffield is partially closed after a violent dog attack early this morning.
Three Dogs Loose, Chaos Erupts
Just before 9am on Sunday 3 December, police were called to reports of three dogs running wild around the 1 Road area. While officers searched for the animals, more trouble erupted.
Two bull-type dogs broke free from a property and launched a savage attack on a dog being walked nearby.
Injuries and Police Action
- The victim dog suffered serious injuries needing veterinary care.
- The dog’s owner was also hurt and rushed to hospital.
- Officers raced to Handsworth Road, but the aggressive dogs snarled back, threatening public safety.
Fearing further harm, firearms officers sadly had to destroy the two attacking dogs. The third dog was safely captured and seized.
Arrest Made, Investigation Ongoing
A 27-year-old Sheffield man has been arrested on suspicion of allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control. He remains in police custody.
Police are investigating and urge anyone with information to call 101 quoting incident number 250 of 3 December 2023.
