Heroic Rescue as Fire Blocks Escape in London Home Blaze
A fire ripped through the ground floor of a mid-terraced house, blocking residents’ safe escape. Leading Firefighter Steven Board, who tackled the blaze, said: “The hallway was alight, cutting off a safe route for the people inside.”
Firefighters Rescue Mother and Child from Bedroom
Brigade 999 Control Officers guided a woman and child trapped upstairs on how to stay safe before crews arrived. On arrival, firefighters spotted a light from the bedroom window and quickly pitched a short extension ladder to the first floor.
“We helped the woman and child down the ladder to safety,” said Steven Board. Both were rushed to hospital by London Ambulance crews.
Fire Brought Under Control in Just 16 Minutes
The fire brigade was called at 2.32am, and the blaze was under control by 2.48am. Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters from Orpington and Bromley stations tackled the inferno.
The cause of the fire is now being investigated by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
