Major Drug Busts Hit East London and Beyond

Police cracked down on organised drug gangs in a series of early morning raids between 24 February and 3 March. The swoops targeted networks dealing class A drugs like cocaine and MDMA, wrapping up two major investigations into county lines operations.

£210,000 Cash and £100,000 in Watches Seized

Officers seized around 1kg of class A drugs, including crack cocaine and heroin, plus ‘party bags’ filled with MDMA and cocaine. They also found a whopping £210,000 in cash and 10 luxury watches, each worth over £10,000.

The suspects play various roles in drug dealing rings spanning East London, Essex, and Sussex. Some run entire networks; others provide vehicles and houses used for drug trafficking. Even street-level dealers were caught up. Several arrested have links to violent crimes, including shootings and stabbings over recent years.

Operation Continuum Strikes Back

The raids were part of Operation Continuum, an intelligence-driven campaign by local cops and the Met’s Specialist Crime Command. Funded by Project ADDER—an alliance of the Home Office, Department of Health, and Public Health England—the initiative fights drug misuse and crime with a full-system approach.

Detective Chief Inspector Sean Lyons said:

“These organised crime groups are strongly linked to violence and are a major cause of drug-related devastation in our communities. We’re tackling this with partners, supporting displaced drug users, and providing treatment. Our relentless work is paying off. Knife crime is down 32%, gun crime down 35%, and robbery down 44% compared to pre-pandemic levels.”

Police Praise Team Efforts and Partnerships

Detective Inspector Tom Pearse, who led the county lines probe, added:

“This ruthless criminal network made over £3 million a year and fought fiercely to protect their territory. Thanks to a zero-tolerance policy on violence and strong collaboration with other forces, we’ve dismantled the entire operation from importers to street dealers.”

Tower Hamlets Mayor John Biggs welcomed the crackdown:

“These raids are another win for Operation Continuum and our fight against the drugs market. After the raids, teams provided support and helped people access addiction services, improving health and cutting crime. I’m committed to working with police to keep our borough safe.”
