Four Dead in Shocking Didcot Power Station Collapse

Tragedy struck Didcot A Power Station in Oxfordshire today as a building collapsed, leaving four dead and a major rescue operation underway.

Major Incident Declared at Power Station

South Central Ambulance Service dispatched their hazardous areas response team, three ambulances, and an air ambulance to the scene. A spokesperson confirmed, “We are describing it as a major incident.”

Rescue Teams Race Against Time

Chief fire officer Dave Etheridge called the event a “very severe incident”. So far, one person is confirmed dead, five injured, and three remain missing.

“Absolute sympathy and deep thoughts to all the families involved. We are doing our very best to secure the return of their loved ones as soon as we can,” Etheridge said.

Power Company Confirms Fatalities and Missing

A statement from RWE Generation UK revealed the collapse happened shortly after 4pm while demolition work was underway. The company confirmed:

  • One person dead
  • Four people hospitalised
  • Three people unaccounted for and missing

RWE added, “Our thoughts are with the families of all those involved in this tragedy. We will provide updates as we receive them.”

Police Hold Details Until Families Notified

Thames Valley Police are at the scene but have yet to release further information until next of kin have been informed.
