Rollercoaster Horror: 13 Kids and Adult Hurt as Coney Beach Ride Derails
Wacky Worm Crash Sparks Panic
Chaos erupted at Coney Beach Pleasure Park on Wednesday evening when the beloved Wacky Worm rollercoaster reportedly derailed. Around 5:50pm, emergency teams scrambled to the scene after the family ride, popular with kids, came off the rails. Witnesses told of frantic scenes as injured riders were helped to safety, some covered in blood and clearly shaken.
Multiple Minor Injuries, Victims Treated in Hospital
South Wales Police confirmed 13 children and one adult suffered minor injuries. Some needed hospital attention but none were seriously hurt. A police spokesperson urged the public to steer clear of the area:
“At this time we have confirmed that 13 children and one adult have sustained minor injuries. Some of these have required hospital treatment. Please continue to avoid the area to allow Emergency Services access.”
Park To Stay Closed As Investigation Rolls On
Coney Beach Pleasure Park announced the ride, which it calls “the perfect first thrill ride for kids,” is operated by a third party and not owned by the park. Following police instructions, staff cleared the site for a full investigation. The park apologised to visitors and promised refunds to those affected.
“Due to an incident on a third-party ride not owned by Coney Beach, we were instructed by the police to clear the site for further investigation. We apologise for the disruption and will be providing refunds to affected guests as soon as possible.”
Rollercoaster Trouble Hits Cornwall Days Earlier
This scary derailment comes just days after a separate scare at Boardmasters Festival in Newquay, Cornwall. A fairground ride malfunction left riders stuck upside down for around 20 minutes, adding to growing concerns about theme park safety this summer.
