Bradford Teen Kidnapped and Ransomed Outside Takeaway
On 9 May, a 14-year-old boy was snatched outside Mahmood’s takeaway on Leeds Road, Bradford. A male suspect forced him into a nearby parked car, which then sped off. The car held several other suspects.
£900 Ransom Paid to Free Kidnap Victim
The kidnappers demanded a hefty £900 ransom from the boy’s mother to secure his safe return. She paid up in cash, and the teen was finally released unharmed at home.
Kidnapper Caught and Jailed for Four Years
Police launched a swift investigation, leading to the arrest of Mohammed Khubaib, 22, from Florence Street, Bradford. In August, he pleaded guilty to abduction and blackmail charges.
Khubaib was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court on 15 October 2021 to four years behind bars.
“The victim was vulnerable to criminal exploitation and Khubaib tried to exploit him for money,” said Detective Constable Paul Maxwell of the Bradford Safeguarding Team.
“This was an incredibly distressing incident for the victim and his mother, but thankfully neither were injured. Both have received support from police and partner agencies.”
“We urge anyone worried about young people’s safety to call 101. Specialist officers in our Safeguarding Units are ready to help.”
