Motorist Spotted Racing at 201mph in Sussex – Police Launch Hunt
A shocking video has emerged showing a car hurtling down the M23 southbound between Gatwick and Crawley at a terrifying 201mph. Police are now on the hunt for the reckless driver, warning all motorists to buckle up and drive responsibly.
Lockdown Speed Demon Caught on Camera
The footage, shared widely on social media, appears to have been recorded during the coronavirus lockdown – though the exact date remains unknown. The relentless speed has left police stunned and scrambling to identify the ultra-dangerous driver.
Police Warn: Speeding Costs Lives
“This is one of the most appalling examples of dangerous and irresponsible driving we have ever seen in Sussex,” said Chief Inspector Michael Hodder of Surrey and Sussex Roads Policing Unit.
“Driving at such grossly excessive speeds hugely increases the chances of collisions. It’s extremely lucky no one has been killed or seriously injured so far.”
Last year saw Sussex record 1,393 speed-related crashes—the highest since 2009. These accidents caused 315 serious injuries and 18 tragic deaths.
Crackdown on Speeding Drivers Intensifies
Chief Insp Hodder added: “Most drivers stick to the limits but a tiny reckless minority put lives at risk. There’s absolutely no excuse for speeding.”
Sussex and Surrey police have pumped extra funds into specialist roads policing, targeting the ‘fatal four’ offences: speeding, drink or drug driving, mobile phone use, and not wearing seatbelts.
The force supports the National Police Chiefs’ Council’s nationwide speeding crackdown running throughout May. They urge witnesses to report offences via the Operation Crackdown website, quoting Operation Checkmate, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Remember: Speed kills. Stay alert, stay alive.
