One local witness recalled the terrifying sound of the fire ripping through the building, noting loud bangs that resembled gunshots. “The noise of the firefighters using water in the street woke me up at around 6am. It sounded like three gunshots,” said Sally Barker, who, along with her daughter Hermione, was roused from sleep by the chaos.
