A 65-year-old man died from head injuries after falling down the stairs at a Hayling Island curry house, police have confirmed.

Tragic Incident at Gandhi Restaurant

Emergency services were called to the Gandhi Restaurant on Hollow Lane, South Hayling, at 1am on Saturday. The pensioner was rushed to QA Hospital in Cosham but tragically passed away shortly before 10am.

Drinks, Dispute, and a Deadly Fall

The man was part of a group of four men dining together on Friday evening. An eyewitness revealed:

“They just appeared to be having a good Friday night out. Then, as they went to leave, there seemed to be some kind of disagreement between two of the men. The next thing we knew there were screams as the older gentleman fell down the stairs.”

Police Investigation Underway

A 34-year-old has been released under investigation. Two other men, aged 32 and 37, who were initially arrested on suspicion of murder, have since been released.

Detectives are treating the death as suspicious and urge anyone who was dining at the Gandhi Restaurant on Friday 3rd November and hasn’t yet contacted police to get in touch.
