Heartbreaking Dog Theft in Broad Daylight Ends with Heroic Rescue
A vulnerable 20-year-old pooch named Tilly has been found after being snatched in broad daylight from a Croydon estate. The Jack Russell-Chihuahua cross was stolen by a gang of five youths on Monday 14 April from the green space between Oakbank and Field Way, New Addington.
Tilly’s elderly owner, Bob, was left devastated and desperate, fearing for his beloved pet’s life. The pooch relies on vital heart and seizure medication and without it, her chances were grim.
“If they dump her, she can’t see or hear or even walk much—and in this cold, she don’t stand a chance,” a heartbroken Bob said. “I have her medication here. Her life is literally on the line.”
Cash Reward Sparks Breakthrough
The breakthrough came when local businessman Charles May stepped in, offering a cash reward for information leading to Tilly’s safe return. His bold move sparked fresh leads and ultimately helped track down the missing dog.
“It’s very sad it took money to get info—especially when time was running out and her health was failing,” said a family friend. “But Charles May is a hero. He stepped up when it mattered most.”
Tilly was found alive but in poor health and is now on her way back to Bob. She faces urgent medical care, and everyone is holding out hope for her full recovery.
“We pray Tilly will be OK,” said volunteers aiding her recovery. “Thank you to everyone who raised awareness. It truly made a difference.” ❤️
Police Hunt Continues, Suspects Identified on CCTV
The Met Police are still investigating the theft. CCTV footage and photos of the five suspects have been collected, and the case is being treated as a theft of a vulnerable animal.
