Blaze at Orpington Home Sparks Major Fire Probe
A fierce fire tore through a property on Cray Avenue, Orpington late Monday night, sparking a joint police and fire investigation. Emergency services were scrambled just after 11.30pm, but details remain tight-lipped.
Road Locked Down as Detectives Swarm Scene
The street is still sealed off with police tape, guarded by officers as plainclothes detectives comb the scene. Fire investigators in white suits have been spotted inside the cordoned-off house, scrutinising the charred damage.
Staircase Burned, Signs of Accelerant Found
The upstairs staircase is a blackened ruin, with experts suspecting flammable liquid caused the blaze to spread so quickly. Investigators are using specialist equipment to search for traces of accelerants.
Multiple Injured, Hospital Updates Awaited
Several people have been taken to hospital, but police have so far withheld details on the number or condition of those hurt. The Met confirmed officers assisted London Fire Brigade crews, who brought the fire under control by 12.31am.
A London Fire Brigade spokeswoman said: “Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Orpington and Sidcup stations responded. The fire damaged parts of the ground floor, first floor, and stairs.”
“The cause is under investigation,” she added.
