Emergency Evac at Kennington Tube After ‘Alkaline Substance’ Sprayed on Train

Commuters faced a tense night after a suspected alkaline substance was sprayed inside a Northern line train at Kennington station. The alarm was raised just after 9:10pm on Platform 3, sparking an immediate response from British Transport Police (BTP) and Transport for London (TfL). Five police vehicles swarmed the scene as officers cleared the train and platform in a fast-moving security operation.

Passengers Evacuated, No Injuries Reported

Witnesses on board spotted the suspicious substance sprayed along the side of a tube carriage. BTP quickly evacuated all passengers, treating it as a serious safety warning. A specialist team was called in to investigate the chemical, which is thought to be alkaline.

Thankfully, there were no injuries and no medical help was needed.

Tube Disrupted as Investigation Unfolds

Northbound Northern line services between Kennington and Moorgate were temporarily halted, causing a spike in travel chaos across London. TfL issued a security alert and urged commuters to expect delays. Service resumed later once the area was declared safe.

Police Hunt Suspects, CCTV Under Review

“Officers were called at around 9.10pm on Friday (6 June) to Kennington Underground station following reports of a substance being sprayed on the side of a tube carriage. Specialist officers attended and the train was evacuated as a precaution. There were no reports of any injuries. Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing.” – British Transport Police

No arrests have been made yet. Police are examining CCTV footage and appealing for anyone who saw suspicious activity to come forward.
