Romford Cops Slash Violence Against Women by Over 12%
Superintendent Lisa Butterfield, head of Neighbourhood Policing in Romford, has praised her officers for their relentless fight against violence targeting women and girls.
Project Vigilant Patrols Target Predators
“Project Vigilant uses both plain-clothed and uniformed officers to patrol busy nightlife spots,” said Butterfield. “With these boosted patrols in Romford and Ilford, violence against women and girls has dropped by 12.4% compared to last year’s figures.”
The strategy focuses on spotting and stopping predatory behaviour before offences happen. Plain-clothes teams patrol public places regularly, flagging suspicious individuals to uniformed officers who then intervene directly and take action where needed.
Criminal Behaviour Order Bans High-Risk Offender
In February, Romford officers cracked down on a high-harm offender known for targeting young teenage girls in the town centre. Working alongside the Met’s Public Protection detectives and local council, they secured a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO), banning him from the area.
“Many victims refused to cooperate for personal reasons,” Butterfield explained, “so we worked closely with the courts to get the order imposed.”
Keeping London Streets Safe
“We’ve seen troubling violence cases in Romford and east London recently, especially against women and girls. My teams take these crimes extremely seriously,” Butterfield warned. “We’ll keep working with local businesses and partners to catch and convict predatory offenders and protect the public.”
