Massive Search Launched After Yacht Sends Mayday in Solent
The UK Coastguard scrambled a huge rescue operation last night after a 70ft yacht began taking on water in the Solent. The distress call came in at 9.45pm on Channel 16, with seven people aboard struggling as their pumps failed to keep up.

The Coastguard issued a Mayday relay to alert all vessels nearby, urging them to keep watch and assist if possible. South Central 1 was notified and stood by to help.
Intense Hunt Ends Without a Trace
Rescue teams scoured the River Medina and Solent throughout the night but found nothing. Despite deploying multiple lifeboats, helicopters, and coastguard units, no sign of the yacht or crew emerged.
By 1am on Tuesday 16 May, all search and rescue efforts were officially stood down. Authorities said there are no current plans to resume the hunt unless new information surfaces.
Search Called Off – For Now
The Coastguard confirmed: “After an extensive and thorough search with nothing found, all teams have been stood down.” The mystery of the missing yacht remains unsolved as the waters calm for now.
