Officers quickly cordoned off Brixton Road, Stockwell Walk, and nearby streets. Bus routes were diverted, causing chaos for local commuters. The incident began around 5:40pm on Sunday after police received reports of a knife-wielding man.

“I’ve been told to stay indoors and lock up,” said one local shop owner. Another said, “It looked like something out of a movie – helicopters and tons of police right outside our shop. Women were warned not to step outside under any circumstances.”

Suspect Detained After Taser Used

A Met Police spokesman confirmed: “Officers arrived at Brixton Road after reports of a man with a knife. A scene was set and traffic diverted.”

The man, in his 20s, was later detained nearby on Astoria Walk after officers deployed a Taser. He received treatment from paramedics before being taken into custody.

“Enquiries are ongoing,” the spokesperson added, “but no other injuries were reported.” Roads have now reopened, easing the disruption.
