A man in his 60s was arrested after reportedly trying to lure a three-year-old girl away with sweets in Freshwater, Isle of Wight, on the morning of Friday, September 27, 2024.
The unsettling event took place at around 8:30 a.m. in the School Green Road area while the toddler was being walked to school. The suspect allegedly asked the child if she wanted to leave her father to go shopping and buy sweets with him. Bystanders claim the man made inappropriate hip-thrusting gestures towards the little girl.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary acted fast, identifying and arresting a 61-year-old local man by day’s end. He was taken into custody at Newport Police Station on suspicion of attempting to take a child away without lawful control.
The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
