Man arrested after car crashes into takeaway in Trowbridge

A dramatic smash-up in Trowbridge saw a car plough into a takeaway shop late last night (17/1), causing serious damage and sparking a police hunt.

Crash causes chaos on Stallard Street

Just after 10pm, emergency crews rushed to Stallard Street after a Citroen C3 smashed through the front window of a takeaway restaurant. The vehicle itself was left badly damaged.

Driver and passengers flee on foot

Police arrived to find the scene in chaos. The driver and passengers had bolted, running off towards the nearby railway station. An extensive search was launched to track them down.

Man in his 20s arrested for drink or drug driving and weapon possession

Officers caught up with a man in his twenties from Bradford-on-Avon. He was arrested on suspicion of being unfit to drive due to alcohol or drugs and for possessing an offensive weapon.

The suspect is currently held in Melksham for further questioning as inquiries continue.

Police appeal for witnesses
