Old Kent Road Shut After Serious Crash Between Car and Cyclist
A major South London artery, the A2 Old Kent Road, was shut for over four and a half hours today following a nasty collision between a car and a cyclist.
Man Arrested for Double Drink Driving
Metropolitan Police confirmed the driver was under the influence when he smashed into a pushbike, leaving the cyclist seriously injured. The pedal cyclist, a man in his 20s, was rushed to a trauma centre in South London for urgent treatment. His current condition remains undisclosed.
The driver’s vehicle suffered heavy damage, but he was reported to have only minor injuries. He was immediately arrested on suspicion of drink driving and is now in police custody.
Investigation Underway, Road Remains Closed
Collision Investigation Unit officers from Catford are scouring the scene to uncover the full circumstances. The A2 remains closed as their probe continues.
Met Police urge anyone who witnessed the smash or has relevant footage to come forward to aid inquiries.

Met Police spokesman: “Police were called at 4.31pm on Wednesday, 23 October, to a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian near Peckham Park Road, SE15. The cyclist, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening. One man was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and remains in custody.”
