Royal Gibraltar Regiment Gear Up for King’s Coronation Parade
The final inspection of 14 soldiers from The Royal Gibraltar Regiment has wrapped up ahead of their big moment at King Charles III’s Coronation in London on Saturday, 6 May 2023.
These service personnel from MOD Gibraltar have the prestigious role of marching in the Coronation procession, marking a proud chapter in Gibraltar’s military history.
From Gibraltar to London: A Historic Honour
The ceremonial squad, led by Captain Alvarez, recently rehearsed in the UK alongside British forces and Commonwealth troops, honing their performance for the grand event.
MOD Gibraltar, part of a global network of overseas military bases under Strategic Command, plays a vital role in UK defence and international security.
Voices from the Regiment: Pride and Legacy
Colonel Matthew Moore, Commanding Officer of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment, said: “We are deeply honoured to take part in this historic event. Soldiers from our forebear Regiment, the Gibraltar Defence Force, marched at the 1953 Coronation. Now, we proudly continue this tradition. We represent not just the Royal Gibraltar Regiment and British Forces Gibraltar, but the people of Gibraltar. I’m confident our soldiers will perform with pride and the highest standards in London and back home.”
Second Lieutenant Bailey added: “It’s a very proud moment for me and the Regiment. After public duties last year, marching in the Coronation is the next step in our hard work.”
Private Griffin said: “It’s a massive privilege to be part of the first Coronation of my generation. I feel honoured to represent my Regiment in the UK.”
Private Lockwood commented: “Being part of HM The King’s Coronation fills me with pride and excitement. For the Royal Gibraltar Regiment, it’s an honour to stand alongside other UK regiments in this historic event.”
Gibraltar to Celebrate in Style
Back home, Gibraltar will salute the Coronation with a majestic 21-gun Royal Gun salute. Street parties will erupt across the territory, celebrating a landmark day in its storied history.
