Clapham Alkali Attack Victim Stable as Suspect’s Body Found in Thames
A 31-year-old mother-of-two injured in a shocking Clapham alkali attack is now stable and off sedation, police have confirmed. However, she still cannot communicate.
Suspect Abdul Ezedi Sought Since January 31
The victim and her young daughters, aged eight and three, were doused with a corrosive substance on Lessar Avenue, sending shockwaves across the community. Officers had been hunting 31-year-old suspect Abdul Ezedi since the attack.
Body Spotted Near Tower Pier Sparks Breakthrough
On Monday afternoon (February 19), a passing boat crew reported seeing a body in the River Thames near Tower Pier. The Metropolitan Police Marine Policing Unit recovered the body. Detectives strongly believe it to be Ezedi, thanks to distinctive clothing and personal items found on him.
Commander Jon Savell said: “Based on the distinctive clothing he was wearing at the time of the attack and property found on his body, we strongly believe we have recovered the body of Ezedi.”
Formal ID checks, including DNA and dental records, will follow to confirm for certain.
Intense Search After Suspect Entered Thames at Chelsea Bridge
Police had ramped up the search after intelligence suggested Ezedi entered the Thames at Chelsea Bridge about four hours after the attack. Hundreds of members of the public assisted the police hunt, with officers thanking them for their help.
The investigation continues as police work to bring justice for the victim and protect the community.
