Murder probe launched after 75-year-old stabbed to death in Putney
A brutal stabbing has rocked Putney after a 75-year-old man was fatally attacked in the early hours of Friday, January 24, 2025.
Police called to stabbing on Deodar Road
Police rushed to an address on Deodar Road, SW15, at 3:36am following reports of a stabbing. Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service fought to save the man but he was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
Although formal ID is pending, the victim’s next of kin have been informed. Specialist officers are supporting the bereaved family.
Arrest made – suspect known to victim
A 30-year-old man is in custody, arrested on suspicion of murder. Police say the suspect was known to the victim, but details of their relationship remain unclear.
“We believe this to be an isolated incident and there is no wider threat to the public,” said Detective Superintendent Amanda Mawhinney of the South West Command Unit.
She added, “We have made significant progress by making an arrest, but the investigation is ongoing.”
Police appeal for witnesses
Detective Mawhinney urged locals to come forward with any information. “If anyone was in the area around 3am and saw or heard anything unusual, please contact us as soon as possible.”
Police have cordoned off the scene and imposed road closures while investigators gather evidence. A heightened police presence will remain throughout the day.
