Rushcliffe Kids Get Street-Smart with Police Safety Talks
More than 600 youngsters at nine primary schools across Rushcliffe have already had a crash course in street safety, courtesy of local cops. The officers didn’t just talk safety—they handed out cool police vehicle trading cards and even let the kids climb inside a real patrol car.
Police Reach Out to More Schools and Youth Groups
The Rushcliffe South Neighbourhood Policing Team is now calling on more schools, Rainbows, Brownies, and community groups to invite them for visits. It’s all about making sure kids know how to stay safe on the roads and build positive relationships with the police.
PC Kelly Carlile of Nottinghamshire Police said: “It’s great to visit schools and engage with pupils – it’s a key part of what we do in neighbourhood policing. Teaching road safety to primary school kids is vital for their future.”
“These visits also let us connect early with youngsters and encourage the right behaviour.”
“Creating positive relationships between police and the next generation can only be a good thing.”
Trading Cards and Goodies Boost Kids’ Engagement
The Rapid Responder trading cards are a hit, modelled on popular children’s favourites like Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Match Attax. Kids also received high-visibility wristbands and stickers during the talks.
PC Carlile added: “We’ve had brilliant feedback from teachers and parents. Kids are even saying they want to be police officers when they grow up—that’s lovely to hear.”
