Newborn Baby Abandoned in Shopping Bag Found in Newham
A shocking discovery last night saw a newborn baby girl dumped in a shopping bag at the busy junction of Greenway and High Street South, E6, Newham.
The tiny infant, wrapped snugly in a towel, was spotted by a sharp-eyed dog walker out for an evening stroll.
Good Samaritan Saves Baby’s Life
Chief Superintendent Simon Crick praised the passerby’s quick actions, confirming the baby is safe and well. The kind stranger kept the newborn warm until paramedics from the London Ambulance Service arrived for a full check-up.
Remarkably, the baby showed no injuries and was swiftly taken to hospital for ongoing care.
Police Urge Baby’s Mother to Come Forward
While the infant’s health is stable, officers are deeply concerned for the welfare of the mother. Superintendent Crick expressed sympathy for the trauma she must have faced and stressed the urgent need for her to get immediate medical help.
“We have trained professionals and specialist officers ready to support her. We urge her to contact the nearest hospital or police station without delay,” said Crick.
Investigation Underway as Police Seek Information
The baby was found at 9.13pm on Thursday, January 18. Police have finished their on-site work and closed the scene, but investigations continue.
Authorities are working closely with local hospitals and have made an urgent appeal for the mother to come forward.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Metropolitan Police on 999, quoting reference CAD 6876/18 Jan.
The community remains shaken, with many expressing concern for both the newborn and her mother’s wellbeing. Police emphasise the mother’s health is the top priority and encourage immediate help-seeking.
