Tragic Crash Claims Life of Traveller in Surrey
A member of the local travelling community has died after his off-road motorbike collided with a BMW 3 Series. Another man remains in hospital with serious, life-changing injuries following the Sunday evening crash.
Crash Details and Police Appeal
Witnesses near the scene reported hearing the motorbike revving loudly before a devastating bang. The collision occurred close to the car park near Laleham Park, at the junction of Abbey Drive and Ferry Lane.
Surrey Roads Policing launched an immediate investigation. A specialist from the Sussex and Surrey Serious Collision Team is leading a full forensic probe into the crash.
Road Still Closed and Families Mourn
The road remains shut both ways while investigators work at the scene. Relatives have visited to lay flowers and pay tribute to the deceased rider.
Surrey Police confirmed they were called at 5.54pm about the incident involving a scrambler-style motorbike and a blue BMW. Despite paramedics’ efforts, one biker was pronounced dead at the scene. The other rider has been rushed to hospital with grave injuries. The BMW driver escaped unharmed.
Witnesses Urgently Needed
Police are urgently appealing for anyone who saw the collision or either vehicle’s driving between 5.30pm and 6pm to come forward. Dashcam or helmet cam footage from the area could prove crucial.
“We are specifically looking to speak to anyone who witnessed the crash or captured it on camera,” said a Surrey Police spokesman.
