Stabbing and Multiple Incidents Shake Carnival
As of 7pm on Monday, police battled through a series of incidents at the Notting Hill Carnival, including a stabbing. Thankfully, the victim’s injuries are not life-threatening. Throughout the day, officers swooped in to seize an astonishing number of weapons, helping keep one of Europe’s largest street festivals on the right side of safe.
41 Weapons and Firearms Confiscated
Using tough Section 60 stop-and-search powers, cops seized 41 weapons (not counting firearms). The crackdown included two guns – one taken during a vehicle stop in Harrow, and another confiscated at a Carnival entrance. In a major coup, a man wanted for attempted murder in Hackney was arrested right inside the festival area, proving the police presence is no joke.
Nearly 250 Arrests So Far – Offences Listed
By Monday evening, the police had made a whopping 145 arrests in just one day. Total arrests over the two-day event now hit 249. Charges include:
- 40 for possession of offensive weapons
- 16 assaults on emergency workers
- 4 sexual offences
- 3 violent injuries
- 6 other violent offences
- 1 firearm possession
- 2 vehicle crimes
- 1 harassment
- 7 with intent to supply drugs
- 6 possession of Class A drugs
- 29 possession of Class B drugs
- 3 possession of nitrous oxide
- 6 possession of other drugs
- 3 theft offences
- 4 public order offences
- 14 other offences
